Dat bracht de geboren Roemeense naar Belgi\u00eb. \u00c9n het was de reden om zonder IT-ervaring toch voor IT te kiezen. Het bleek de juiste weg. Adriana\u2019s gedurfde keuzes leidden naar Capgemini, waar ze sinds 2020 met veel plezier werkt. Waarom? \u2018Je bent hier geen nummer, maar je wordt echt gezien.\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018Ik heb in Boekarest business administration gestudeerd. Die opleiding was in het Frans, een taal die ik goed spreek. Dus toen ik nadacht over een toekomst in een ander Europees land, was het Frankrijk of Belgi\u00eb. Het eerste lag voor de hand, dus koos ik het tweede. Ik wilde \u00e9cht iets anders.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018En hier zijn we, tien jaar later. Belgi\u00eb voelt nu als mijn tweede thuis. Ik heb zelfs de Belgische nationaliteit. In de tussentijd heb ik hier ook een master in management science gedaan. Dat was dan weer aan een Nederlandstalige universiteit, waardoor ik die taal nu kan verstaan. Zo weet ik in elk geval waar mijn Nederlandssprekende collega\u2019s het over hebben!\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-goed-gevoel\">Goed gevoel<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018Mijn eerste baan was bij een bank, BNP Paribas Fortis, waar ik zes jaar heb gewerkt. Eerst als adviseur van particuliere klanten, later van zzp\u2019ers en mkb\u2019ers. Dat was interessant, omdat het inhoudelijker was. Toch wilde ik na een tijdje nog verder de diepte in. Ik raakte ge\u00efnteresseerd in de processen achter de schermen: hoe richten we die zo in dat we klanten nog beter kunnen helpen? Dan kom je al snel uit bij IT. Ik had daar geen achtergrond in, maar ik besloot het gewoon te proberen.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018Toen ik op onderzoek uitging, kwam ik Capgemini tegen. Het viel me op dat het op de website vooral over mensen gaat. Dat vind ik belangrijk: dat je niet als nummer wordt gezien. Ik solliciteerde en werd uitgenodigd. De recruiter vertelde me dat ik me geen zorgen hoefde te maken over mijn gebrek aan IT-ervaring. Dat ik trainingen kon gaan doen. Het gevoel was goed en ik wist dat ik er wilde werken. Ik was dolblij toen ik de baan kreeg.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-oude-liefde\">Oude liefde<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018Nu werk ik hier als business analyst binnen het financial services-domein. Een business analyst vormt de brug tussen stakeholders en IT. Wat dat betekent? Voor mij zijn dat drie dingen. Ten eerste komt het aan op communicatie. Je moet een mensenmens zijn. Goede vragen stellen, zorgen dat je met iedereen op \u00e9\u00e9n lijn zit \u2013 of dat nu stakeholders zijn of mensen uit je team.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018Ten tweede moet je achterhalen wat stakeholders \u00e9cht zoeken. Misschien zegt een klant dat hij in zijn app een nieuwe button wil, terwijl hij eigenlijk een bepaalde service wil op de app; niet per se een button. Dus moet je d\u00f3\u00f3rvragen, net zo lang tot je bij het daadwerkelijke doel bent. Desnoods maken we eerst een demoversie die we finetunen met de klant. Heel agile. In mijn team gaat het om backend-applicaties van banken. We werken in mainframes en in Java. Mainframes omdat het om banken gaat, Java omdat we werken richting API\u2019s.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018Het derde aspect is goed documenteren. Alles wat je doet gedisciplineerd vastleggen. Zodat er een bron is om op terug te vallen. Daarmee help je jezelf \u00e9n iedereen die na jou komt en wil weten hoe je iets hebt aangepakt. Iedereen leert ervan.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018Een van de grootste klanten waarvoor ik werk is \u2013 ironisch genoeg \u2013 BNP, de bank waar ik mijn carri\u00e8re begon. Oude liefde roest niet. Het is natuurlijk handig dat ik de organisatie goed ken. Al werkte ik toen op een filiaal en heb ik nu te maken met het hoofdkantoor. Maar mijn hart maakte een sprongetje; het is het beste van twee werelden.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-bedankjes\">Bedankjes<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018Naast mijn werk voor klanten zet ik me in voor twee Capgemini community\u2019s. Eentje is de buddy-community. Als een nieuwe collega begint, wordt hij gekoppeld aan iemand met meer ervaring die hem tijdens zijn eerste dagen begeleidt. Toen ik hier zelf begon, waardeerde ik het enorm dat er iemand was om me te helpen. Dat doe ik nu op mijn beurt graag voor anderen.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018Daarnaast zit ik met vier collega\u2019s in het kernteam van Young Talent, een community voor Cappers tot 30 jaar. Als de situatie rond corona verbetert, hopen we samen met de Nederlandse Young Talent-community een trip te organiseren. Voor mij zou dat de eerste keer zijn, dus ik weet niet precies hoe het eraan toegaat. Maar wat ik hoor, klinkt te gek.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018Dit soort events is belangrijk, omdat je er als medewerker veel energie en motivatie uit haalt. In het algemeen is Capgemini hier goed in: mensen motiveren. Het werk is uitdagend. Maar het geeft ook veel voldoening, omdat je wordt gezien. En omdat je bedankjes krijgt als je een prestatie hebt geleverd. That\u2019s what brought the Romanian to Belgium, and it was the reason for her to choose a career in IT &#8211; without having any IT experience. And that has made all the difference&#8230; Adriana\u2019s daring choices led her to Capgemini, where she\u2019s enjoyed working since 2020. Why? \u2018You\u2019re not just a number here; people actually see you as a person.\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI studied Business Administration in Bucharest. The study programme was in French, which I speak fluently. So when I was thinking about a future in another European country, it was either France or Belgium. The first was the obvious choice, so I chose the latter. I wanted something completely different.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAnd here we are, 10 years later. Belgium feels like my second home. I\u2019ve even become a naturalised citizen. In the meantime, I\u2019ve also earned a Master\u2019s in Management Science. That was at a Dutch-language university, so now I can understand that language too. At least I know what my Dutch-speaking colleagues are talking about!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Good feeling<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMy first job was at a bank, BNP Paribas Fortis. I worked there for six years, first as a consultant for private customers, and later for the self-employed and SMEs. That was interesting because it was more hands-on. But after a while, I wanted something with more depth. I was interested in the processes behind the scenes: how do we organise them in order to help our customers even better? That quickly takes you into IT territory. I didn\u2019t have a background in IT, but I decided to try it anyway.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen I started looking around, I came across Capgemini. I noticed that their website mainly talked about people. That\u2019s something I think is important: that you\u2019re not seen as just a number. So I applied and was invited for an interview. The recruiter told me not to worry about my lack of IT experience. They had training courses for that. I had a good feeling about it, and I knew I wanted to work there, so I was ecstatic when I got the job!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Old love<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNow I work in the Financial Services domain as a business analyst. A business analyst serves as the bridge between stakeholders and IT. What does that mean? To me, it means three things. First, that it\u2019s about communications. You have to be a \u2018people person\u2019. Asking good questions, making sure everyone is on the same page; whether they\u2019re stakeholders or people in your team.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSecondly, you have to find out what the stakeholders really want. A client might say that they want a new button on their app, but actually they want to offer a specific service, not necessarily a button. So you have to ask follow-up questions until you get to their actual goal. If necessary, we\u2019ll build a demo version first and then fine-tune it together with the client. Very Agile. In my team, we do back-end applications for banks. We work in mainframes and in Java. Mainframes because it\u2019s for banks, and Java because we work towards APIs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe third aspect is proper documentation. You have to record everything you do in a disciplined manner, so that there\u2019s a source to fall back on. By doing that you help yourself and everyone who comes after you to know how you dealt with the issue. And everyone can learn from it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOne of the biggest clients I work for is ironically BNP, the bank where I started my career. Old love doesn\u2019t fade. It comes in handy that I know the organisation well, although back then I worked at a branch location and now I deal with the main office. But my heart still skipped a beat; it\u2019s the best of both worlds.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Thank you&#8217;s<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn addition to my work for clients, I also participate in two Cap communities. One is the buddy community. When a new colleague starts working here, they\u2019re partnered with someone with more experience who can show them around for the first few days. When I started here myself, I really appreciated that someone was there to help me. So now I\u2019m happy to do that for others.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTogether with four of my colleagues, I\u2019m also part of the core team for Young Talent, a community for Cappers under the age of 30. Once the coronavirus situation improves, we hope to organise a trip together with the Dutch Young Talent community. That would be the first time for me, so I don\u2019t know exactly what that would entail. But from what I\u2019ve heard, it sounds amazing!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018These kinds of events are important because they give you a lot of energy and motivation as an employee. That\u2019s something that Capgemini is generally good at: motivating people. The work is challenging, but it also gives you a lot of satisfaction because you\u2019re recognised and appreciated. And because of all the thank-you\u2019s you receive for your performance.
