Solution Architect – Cardiff

Focus of the role:

Capgemini FS is currently looking to hire a skilled Solution Architect to join our Cards practice and work on an initial engagement with a high profile banking client.

What you’ll do:
  • Creating technology solutions to design and deliver business solutions, in line with business needs and priorities and aligned to BCP, Group IT strategies and architecture. 
  • Work closely with Product Owners, Scrum masters, other Solutions Designers, Technical Leads, Developers and other team members, to ensure that the outcomes delivered meet the business benefits and adhere to agreed standards policies and design patterns.
  • Define and drive BCP architecture vison and systems strategy. 
  • Lead coach and mentor a small team of Solution Designers working across BCP. 
  • Provide ad hoc technical consultancy and support, including impact assessments as required.
  • Responsible for creating technology solutions, architectural visions, proofs of feasibility and solutions impacts assessments to meet business requirements in line with BCP and Group IT Strategies and Architectures. 
  • Works with external partners and suppliers to deliver required business services and products.
  • Proactively researches relevant technologies and demonstrate their benefits by developing POCs where necessary.
  • Adding clarity to business requirements challenges business requirements to ensure high quality candidate solutions are created.
  • Identifies common needs and opportunities for joint aligned solutions across BCP, Barclaycard Business Solutions and Barclays International. 
  • Thinks outside of the box to support the business in delivering its strategic objectives rather than just responding to a predefined requests.
  • Provides thought leadership and drive technology innovation.
  • Provides advice on supplier and cost options ensures that the validity of the overall solution is fully represented and considered in any RFI, RFPs process or in the creation and evaluation of proof of concept solutions. 
  • Has experience of and is conversant with migration from legacy estate delivery to cloud based solutions e.g. AWS, DevOps practices and agile delivery methods.
  • Provides advice and guidance to business and technology stakeholders in shaping the portfolio of technology solutions to support business needs.
  • Gives hands on guidance and support to BCP delivery teams.
  • Contributes to broader architectural governance activities by participating in peer reviews for other solutions.
  • Maintains detailed awareness of and takes fully into account and promotes throughout the organisation, any relevant statutory internal or external regulations standards and codes of good practice.
  • Can contribute to the definition of such regulation’s standards and codes.
  • Actively contributes to the development and promotion of Barclays International technology organisation.
  • Coaches and mentors other members of the BCP architecture teams and the broader technology community.
  • Working closely with the relevant Lead Solutions Designers and Chief Architecture Owners supports the creation of an appropriate IT strategy for BCP.
  • Provides advice and guidance to business and technology stakeholders in shaping the portfolio of technology solutions to support business needs.
  • Gives hands on guidance and support to BCP delivery teams.
  • Contributes to broader architectural governance activities by participating in peer reviews for other solutions.
  • Influences the relevant business strategy to maximize the effective use of technology to drive customer value.
  • Maintains knowledge of relevant technical skills at the highest level.
  • Builds relationship with manufacturers supply channels and SI partners.
What you’ll bring:
  • Significant and proven experience in real world architecture with significant practical experience of defining enterprise wide technical solutions, documenting them and driving them to delivery.
  • Significant and proven experience with an application background, as well as an understanding of API architecture, including RAML, SOAP etc.
  • Significant and proven experience in architecting end to end solutions including software/application architecture and integration.
  • Experience of migrating from traditional on premise architecture to Cloud based solutions.
  • Cards & Payment, Application integration, Acquiring and Issuing.
  • Knowledge of open communication standards such as SIP and WebRTC.
  • Knowledge and experience of open source projects including those related to contact centres.
  • Competence in the execution of substantial IT delivery programmes from inception through delivery
  • Solution architect and enterprise architect training and certification, e.g. TOGAF or BCS.
  • Knowledge of Java / Java Enterprise.
