About the Legal Team

The Capgemini Group has a global legal team of over 120 lawyers led from our Group Legal offices in Paris. Within that global team, there are local and regional legal teams of varying size.  The UK & Ireland Legal team currently consists of around 20 UK based lawyers, supported by lawyers based in India and Poland.  The legal team is motivated, enthusiastic and supportive and enjoys an excellent range of high quality legal work. In the UK, the Legal team is also part of a business community called Core Services.

Main purpose of the role

Capgemini is seeking to recruit additional non-contentious IT/commercial lawyers to its UK Legal team.  We have a bold and creative approach to providing business solutions and are looking for a bright, talented and commercially experienced and astute lawyer.  The successful candidate will work closely with a broad range of internal stakeholders and external clients and will advise on a wide variety of commercial issues and transactions, varying in nature, complexity and value, as well as ad hoc legal issues. 


The successful candidate will benefit from a good degree of autonomy and will work on all phases of deals, with support from senior lawyers in the team when required.  In addition, the successful candidate will be part of the global legal team and will need to comply with and deploy locally the Group’s global contracting principles, business ethics and values as well as company policies.


Applications are welcomed from lawyers with contract law experience, particularly specialising in IT law, whether in-house or in private practice.  


Although Capgemini is open to assessing candidates from diverse professional backgrounds, the responsibilities and skills required for the role are likely to favour candidates eligible to practice law in England & Wales, e.g., candidates holding or eligible to hold a practising certificate as a solicitor of England & Wales. 

Key responsibilities

The successful candidate will enjoy a degree of responsibility appropriate to a lawyer providing a full legal service (with support from senior members of the team when required), including:


⦁    Advising on all phases of deals, ranging from the proposal/bid review stages through to negotiation and post signature issues.  This includes providing strategic legal advice at all stages of the deal
⦁    Negotiation of contracts for the provision of IT, outsourcing (including business process outsourcing), consultancy, digital and engineering services 
⦁    Supporting the outsourcing of work to team members based in India and Poland.  Supporting that work includes providing appropriate support, feedback and, on occasions, training
⦁    Supporting the Group’s compliance programme, raising regulatory compliance issues
⦁    Delivering occasional legal training and presentations to the business
⦁    Liaising with external lawyers as necessary.

Additional responsibilities

Ancillary roles will include providing legal sign-off on deals (including through the UK & Group legal sign-off processes), attending, development and presentation of legal training courses, policy drafting, assistance with dispute resolution (e.g., by managing external litigators) and working as part of the global legal team on global initiatives, which may include working on international transactions. You may also be called upon to advise on non-client related matters such as those relating to suppliers, partners and other parties, and may be required to support legal compliance initiatives in areas such as competition law, export control, anti-bribery and corruption.

Essential skills

⦁    Excellent grasp of general commercial and contract law, including in the area of technology in spheres such as cloud, digital, data protection and cyber security
⦁    Takes ownership (structures, plans, executes and concludes) of complex work components or small projects, including for large value and complex bids and transactions
⦁    Fully accountable for own decisions and ability to apply judgement to decision-making based on past experience and available information
⦁    Confidence to influence the business at a senior level and set expectations
⦁    Understanding of what it is to be commercially aware and how to deal with commercial challenges
⦁    Ability to develop sustainable relationships in the business and use those proactively to help in its management
⦁    Expert in verbal and written communications for both formal and informal settings, with effective negotiation skills 
⦁    Proficiency in assessing client requirements, preferences and expectations
⦁    Demonstrated resilience and ability to work under pressure, such as resilience towards multi-stakeholder demands and changes during negotiations within tight timelines
⦁    Ability to work successfully as part of a team and coach and mentor colleagues, including those located outside the UK
⦁    Capable of delivering training in own areas of expertise
⦁    Demonstrated empathetic style and valuing of diversity 
⦁    Ability to introduce new thinking and practices that help improve business performance across the organisation 
⦁    Creates, seeks and acts upon opportunities to obtain and share knowledge (methodologies, technologies and best practices) for the benefit of both Capgemini’s knowledge base and each individual Capgemini employee.
