Principal Mechanical Design Engineer
In this role, you will be part of an Aerospace team that is responsible for the design, analysis, and field support of gears and splines on propulsion engines, APUs, and advanced technology programs. The scope of this position includes solving complex problems using state-of-the-art software tools and methods for newly proposed and existing products while simultaneously supporting Technical Excellence Teams to capture and publish analysis practices and guidelines. Typical responsibilities involve leading design, development, and test activities including operation, data collection, and analysis. Results will be presented in design reviews and documented to meet program deliverables and requirements. Must be able to lead component design and analysis engineers while working effectively with design teams, project engineers, global support, chief engineers, and customers.
You Must Have
•Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Civil Engineering
•15+ years of gear and spline design analysis experience
•Motivated to drive improvements in a meaningful environment
•Passion for solving challenging problems
•Ambitious and able to work with little supervision, consistently take the initiative to get things done, do things before being asked by others or necessitated by events
•Possess a wide degree of curiosity, creativity, and flexibility
•Ability to work with other team members ensuring timely completion of assignments
•Ability to juggle many priorities and competing demands easily and effectively
•Good interpersonal skills both written and verbal
•Experience with gas turbines and gas turbine gearbox systems.
•Advanced understanding and application of these disciplines: gears & power transmission, kinematics & mechanisms, strength of materials, fatigue lifting, gear manufacturing processes
•Aptitude for mechanical designs and system conceptualization
•Experience using advanced numerical simulation codes (for example, OSU Load Distribution Program, ANSYS, Romax)
•Background in structural dynamics and rotordynamics
•Familiarity with mechanical component rig testing
•Knowledge of Six Sigma tools and application
•Due to applicable export control laws and regulations
