Hello, I am Sumit Kumar. I have been with Capgemini for almost 6 years and currently working as a Manager in the Automotive business unit at Capgemini Engineering.

How does a usual day working at Capgemini look like?

Every day I look forward to working with the best and brightest group of people.  Capgemini offers a positive atmosphere, proactive employee engagement and challenging work that keeps me motivated.

Typically, my day revolves around bridging the gap between team members both offshore and onsite, and making sure that the work we are doing is effective and up to standard. I am constantly engaging with customers, taking requirements, and discussing and clarifying options to facilitate delivery. In my own team, I guide my team members to work effectively and push themselves for quality and on time delivery. The Capgemini leadership team nurtures us to pursue our passions and to love what we do while we get the future we want!

What excites you about your job and what makes it special working at Capgemini?

In my current role, I am leading and managing a team of 10 members in one of the Automotive projects for Software Design and development of In Vehicle Infotainment. I started my career in Automotive domain with Capgemini in 2016. In last 6+ years I got chance to work in multiple automotive projects starting from mid-level to complex one. In initial phase, I faced lots of challenges as I was new to this domain, but with the help and support from my leaders, managers, and team members I was able to complete it. Currently, we are working on advance automotive solutions like Connected Car, Digital Cockpit, In Vehicle Ecommerce, ADAS, Mobility Management and many more. I am mainly looking into the architecture, design, and development of multiple Software modules in different automotive projects. These technologies offer better and safer driving experience, smoother traffic, and optimized energy consumption for lower emissions that are friendlier to the environment.  Working in a challenging environment to deliver cutting-edge technology solutions and ensure that business moves ahead is what excites me at Capgemini.

How does Capgemini enable you to upskill and reskill?

Capgemini offers multiple learning and development opportunities through different platforms. I started my career as a Software developer in an Automotive project. Every year since then, I have gotten chances for upskilling in different domains with the help of various training programs. Recently I was given the opportunity for certified training on “Artificial Intelligence” from Capgemini-Udacity’s partnership training program. These L&D programs from Capgemini have significantly helped me in my career growth.  

How does Capgemini help create work-life balance for you?

In my view, if I am happy at home, I enter the office with tremendous energy. And if I am happy at work, I come back to my home with tremendous energy.  Capgemini’s agile and flexible work environment and inclusive network of colleagues and mentors, all help me achieve a healthy work-life balance. The collaborative work culture, constant team support, and global opportunities are some of the best things about working at Capgemini, which motivate me to perform better in my role.

Being able to work on the newest projects that we have in terms of technology or innovating on new ideas is key for me and really drives me. Capgemini gives me the flexibility to pursue my own professional interests- I’m never faced with reluctance or resistance when it comes to the adoption or exploration of new technology.

Tell us about the most memorable moment in your Capgemini journey?

One of the most memorable moments was in my first year, when I was asked to work on a complex project. It was a big challenge for me as I was new to the automotive domain at that time, but I did it well and I got to learn a lot in that process. The appreciation and recognition from my team was great! If I hadn’t been given that opportunity and supported throughout, I wouldn’t have gained such useful knowledge for the future. It’s not just formal learning that’s helping me though; it’s my manager and the way the Capgemini community actively helps you develop and grow – that is wonderful!
