What is the biggest lesson that you have learnt as a graduate on the Accelerate Programme?

Do the basics well and build the foundations of your career and if you promise to do something then deliver it in the timescales you agreed. There’s plenty of time to develop specific expertise and content, use this time wisely to develop transferrable skills which can be applied in any team or sector you later choose.

Can you describe your typical workday?

I wake up at around 7AM, read the news and scroll through my social media before switching on my computer to catch-up on emails between 8:00-8:30 AM.

Depending on the client/day meetings typically start from 09:00 AM and this is a mixture of calls, workshops and preparation.

Since working from home, I’ve tried to start cooking more so I take the time to make a nice lunch – the responsibility of this is split between my girlfriend and myself, depending on the work we have each day.

The afternoon falls into a similar pattern as the morning and I work until 18:00 depending on my workload before heading to the gym in the evening or jumping on the Peloton bike before dinner or going out.

I’ve taken full advantage of the current remote working situation, the time I’ve saved commuting each day is now spent either exercising or creating a healthy dinner from scratch.

What are your top tips to graduates for maintaining a healthy work-life balance?

Ensure that you take some time in the day for yourself, either a hobby, playing sport or taking some exercise. With the current remote working it’s all too easy to not switch off and work well into the evening.

Personally, I like to switch off my computer and head to the gym before dinner/going out which really helps me to separate work and my personal life.

What is one thing you wish you took full advantage of on the Accelerate Programme?

Looking back, I wish I took the opportunity to complete a rotation in the ASE (the AIE and other areas of invent didn’t exist back then!). The graduate programme allows you to have more flexibility and work in different areas of invent – so take full advantage whilst you can!
