Innovation in retail: using AI to personalise the shopping experience

This Christmas we are bringing AI driven innovation to life, showing how emotional intelligence can be used to improve the shopping experience.

As technology is constantly evolving, increasing the pressure on retails for better customer expectations, retailers must embrace the change to remain relevant. We, at Capgemini, believe it is crucial for retailers to respond to emerging trends in the industry and continue to work to become more innovative. We are working hard to ensure our clients can provide unique experiences to their customers, using the latest technology, the right messages and the correct channels.

Our summer residency

This summer, we worked with Action for Children through a 5-week residency programme in our Applied Innovation Exchange (AIE), to create sustained impact through technology and innovation. Action for Children is a UK based charity that works to protect and support over 387,000 children and young people each year, providing practical and emotional care and support, ensuring their voices are heard and campaigning to bring lasting improvements to their lives.

Innovation in retail

Following the success of the residency programme, we then supported Action for Children in its Secret Santa campaign, which encourages donations in the form of gifts to brighten up Christmas for vulnerable children. The donation always remains anonymous, and gifting options include a hot meal, clothing, or even a safe place to sleep.

The charity created an immersive pop-up store for two weeks in December, displaying a selection of the gifts you can donate, we are proud to be supporting the campaign by introducing Elf.ai, a predictive machine that uses AI and machine learning. The immersive experience helped visitors select the perfect gift and spread the joy of Christmas!

Action for Children’s Secret Santa Pop-Up Store was open to the public 5-18 December in 3 Slingsby Place, London WC2E 9AB. The store visitors were able to witness some amazing applied innovation, courtesy of the Applied Innovation Exchange, and ultimately donate to a wonderful charity.
