You can now pre-register for the 23rd Edition of the World Markets Observatory, Capgemini’s annual thought leadership and research report that tracks the development and transformation of energy markets around the world. We analyze the current conditions and transformation of the electricity, oil & gas and environmental markets in Europe, North America, Australia, Southeast Asia, India, and China.
Last year’s edition concluded with many questions given the pandemic crisis related uncertainties. Twelve months later, the world is still working on how to navigate these uncertainties. The effects of COVID-19 have been important – consumption decrease, prices collapse and historical Green House Gases emissions decrease. However, as confirmed in H1 2021, they didn’t lead to a sustained emissions decrease, compatible with the 1.5°C global warming objective for 2100.
Efforts on low carbon technologies deployment, stationary storage increase, and electrification must be multiplied. It is important that electrical generation, battery storage and hydrogen production, low-carbon character be evaluated over their lifecycles. Renewables have changed the measurement metrics and new ones are needed.
This year’s report focuses on exploring the key recommendations and considerations needed for today’s Energy and Utility players to address these concerns. Backed by extensive data, we examine key topics, such as: the commodities markets situation, technology evolution, pandemic impacts, climate change, energy transition, retail markets, finance, infrastructure & adequacy of supply and transformation.
