The question is not “if”, but “how, where & when?”
Cloud computing has the potential to transform public sector organizations and the services they provide to us, their customers. However, many public sector leaders are unsure of their approach to implementing cloud, and uncertain of how to navigate through the complex questions about business roles, commercial models, and data security which it seems to raise.
The way forward is to evaluate the possibilities that cloud brings not only for the IT function, but for the strategy of the organization as a whole. By moving corporate functions from inside an organisation to an external cloud, costs can be reduced while improving performance and flexibility. Equally, innovative cloud models can bring the outside environment – customers, partners, and the service delivery chain – into the heart of an organization and continue the progress being made towards greater customer-centricity, choice, data sharing and joined-up service provision in the public sector.
