The role of technology in the enterprise today.

The most important question is not the role of the IT department in the enterprise, but the role that technology is playing across the enterprise. Over the last year, much has been made of users and business managers deciding to use their own devices such as smartphones, tablets and even PCs for work under the term “consumerization of IT”. At the same time, CEOs have been actively working on changing their business models to leverage innovative technologies aimed at working more closely with their customers and markets, and perhaps to even build whole new business areas around the concept of “smart business”. Today, it is possible to recognize 6 separate roles in an enterprise each with distinct reasons for buying and using technology.
