Reinventing Cybersecurity with Artificial Intelligence

Shoring up cybersecurity with AI

The deeper we foray into the Internet Age, the more organisations turn to AI to raise our productivity, improve sales, or enhance our experiences. Now, they are also turning to it to shore up their defenses against the crime that inevitably follows. We wanted to learn more about how they are doing this, and, more importantly, how they can do it better.

To these ends, in the new report from the Capgemini Research Institute, Reinventing Cybersecurity with Artificial Intelligencewe surveyed 850 senior executives from IT Information Security, Cybersecurity and IT Operations in seven sectors across 10 countries and spoke in-depth with industry experts and academics. We also analysed 20 use cases of AI in cybersecurity spread across IT, OT, and IoT. We found that:

  • Firms find it increasingly necessary to bolster cybersecurity with AI – nearly two-thirds don’t think they can identify critical threats without AI.
  • The pace of adoption of AI in cybersecurity is picking up – almost three-quarters of firms are testing AI in cybersecurity use cases in some way.
  • There is a strong business case for using AI in cybersecurity –three in five firms say that using AI improves the accuracy and efficiency of cyber analysts

Many firms are already using AI in their cybersecurity initiatives, or plan to introduce it very soon. To do so successfully, they should build a roadmap for implementing AI in cybersecurity. This means identifying data sources and creating data platforms to operationalise AI, selecting the right use cases to accelerate and maximise benefits, collaborating externally to enhance threat intelligence, deploying security, orchestration, automation, and response (SOAR) to improve security management, training cyber analysts to be AI-ready, and installing governance for AI in cybersecurity to deliver long-term improvement.
