Leading UK DIY company Wickes is reporting multiple benefits after entrusting
IT Operations and technical support in its legacy data centre to Capgemini UK plc during an 18-month period of transition.
The £1 million outsourcing contract was awarded to Capgemini by Travis Perkins,
Wickes’ parent company. The aim was to ensure top-quality 24/7 service pending
migration of all Wickes IT systems to a new Travis Perkins data centre under construction
in Northampton. The contract, which concludes this month, covers computer operations
and technical support for all core IT systems at Wickes including point-of-sale,
stock control, daily store polling, finance, HR and payroll, and support for all
180 Wickes stores across the UK.
The contract involved the transfer of ten IT staff from Wickes to Capgemini under
the Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations (TUPE).
In a formal review of contract performance, Travis Perkins awarded Capgemini
100% for all key success criteria, including maintenance of specified service
levels, effective staff management and helping to ensure smooth migration of services
from the Wickes data centre in Harrow, London to the new Travis Perkins facility
Graham Malpas, Service Delivery Manager of Travis Perkins, said: ‘The leadership
and management provided by Capgemini was outstanding and was a major factor in
keeping services at peak levels, retaining key staff and maintaining staff morale,
eliminating risks and helping us ensure a smooth migration from London to Northampton.
During a challenging period of change for our business, Capgemini’s IT capabilities
and HR skills played a key part in successfully addressing the many challenges
Travis Perkins awarded Capgemini 100% for all five of its pre-set key criteria
for success, using the OTACE (On Time and Above Customer Expectations) formal
rating process which Capgemini applies to all client projects. Commenting on the
award, Pat Desmond, Outsourcing Service Manager at Capgemini, said: ‘We are delighted to have once again been
awarded top marks by the customer for a business-critical project using our objective,
detailed and systematic OTACE review process.’
