The contract was initially awarded by the Inland Revenue for a ten-year period
in July 2004, and subsequently expanded in April 2006 to incorporate the pre-existing
Customs and Excise contract at the merger of the two government departments. The
contract will now end in 2017 instead of 2014 as originally planned. In return,
it will enable HMRC to reduce its IT running costs.

The client’s satisfaction with the services delivered by Capgemini to date on
the Aspire contract, was decisive in fostering the extension.
