Scots Win Top UK Award for Money-Saving Procurement Project

The Scottish Executive has won the UK’s top award in the field of business-to-business
e-commerce for its eProcurement Scotl@nd service which is bringing £multi-million
cost savings and improved efficiency to procurement activities across the Scottish
public sector, including central government, local authorities and the NHS.

The B2B Commerce award, part of the IM 2004 scheme, was won jointly by the Scottish
Executive and its service provider Capgemini. Capgemini and its partners provide
the service on a 24x7x365 basis under a long-term contract.

The Information Management (IM 2004) Awards, supported by the British Computer
Society, are the premier European recognition of excellence and innovation in
the management of business information.

The award was presented to Ian Burdon and Steve Murray of the Scottish Executive
and Steve Webster of Capgemini on 2 December at a special awards ceremony in London.

Nigel Kirby-Green, Capgemini’s Vice-President, Public Sector, said: ‘We congratulate
the Scottish Executive on their well-deserved success. Their eProcurement service,
spanning the Scottish public sector, is a shining example to the rest of the UK
– and the world – of how to use today’s IT to deliver better public services with
greater cost-effectiveness.’
