Capgemini Consulting secures landmark deal with National Grid

In what will be a particularly challenging and complex project, the separation will form a pivotal role in the evolution of the GB energy sector by enabling the System Operator within National Grid, to play an enhanced role in the sector to facilitate competition and innovation for the benefit of consumers. Drawing on its UK and global expertise of business separation and of the utilities sector, Capgemini Consulting will collaborate with National Grid as part of an integrated project team working across both affected entities and supporting National Grid in their engagement with Ofgem and the wider sector.

The early focus is to develop the detailed draft of the business separation design to formally define the relationship between GBSO and TO post-separation; this will cover activities related to commercials and code, investment and planning, and real time operational control room. Capgemini Consulting is also helping National Grid to shape and mobilise the overall Separation Programme which will begin to implement the full scope of legal separation later in 2017 in consultation with the wider sector and regulatory following approvals by Ofgem. From summer 2017 Capgemini Consulting intends to provide support to National Grid as part of an integrated, expanded team implementing changes to business and information processes, systems, and capability required to enact formal legal separation by 1 April 2019.
