Social Media In Large Organisations

Did you know that each and every minute of the day, 100,000 tweets are sent, 684,478 pieces of content are shared on Facebook and 3,600 photos are published on Instagram?
Think that’s all? Far from it. Every 60 seconds 48 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube, 47,000 apps are downloaded from the App Store and an amazing two million search queries are made on Google.

As time and technology has advanced so has the concept of Social media. It can have different definitions to many people; some consider it to be part of their daily lives whereas others may consider it a nuisance. Social media in the world of commerce is widely used and many organisations consider it as a huge potential to attract and market their business to reach out to a bigger audience.

Capgemini uses social media, such as LinkedIn, Yammer & Chatter benefiting from connecting globally, sharing ideas, thoughts, current locations, with many people distributed around the world. From my own experience this worked well, because you were able to gain other perspectives as well as re-use and share documents. Social media such as these can help build networks, increase awareness of the organisations and help other promote some of the services/products which Capegmini offer.

There however can be some downfalls to social media, such as security. Access to the tool and data is accessible to anyone on the World Wide Web and limiting the amount of confidential information put up can help. Keeping the company data secure can be massive priority to many organisations including Capgemini as bad reputation can be created.

Overall, there are positives and negatives to using social media in large organisations. Due to increasing use of social media there have been advantages in security protection. Most business are using social media already and overtime with the development in technology this will increase further.
