2014 got off to a strong start for the retail sector, with British shoppers spending over £8 billion during January; an annual increase of 18%. That’s according to the latest figures from the IMRG Capgemini eRetail Sales Index – see here for the full press release – which also reported that the travel sector recorded a very impressive monthly increase of 233%.
The figures were released to the media this week and has already been picked up a number of business, retail and IT titles, including City AM, Computer Weekly, Computer Business Review and Retail Week, which included comments from Capgemini’s VP Retail, Chris Webster:
“The high conversion rate recorded in January demonstrates that retailers are continuing to evolve their digital platforms, helping to secure sales by improving the customer journey from browsing right through to purchase.”
The story has also been picked up by a range of other leading retail and travel publications, including Internet Retailing, Just Style, MyRetailMedia, and e-tid.
