The Situation

As a result of the global economic downturn, Volvo Car Corporation was looking for ways to maximize its cost effectiveness and create business value from all functions. The company’s strong focus on controlling and reducing IT costs had provided considerable IT savings, but continued improvement required a greater emphasis on how the effective use of IT can improve the overall business performance at Volvo Cars. Volvo Cars engaged Capgemini Consulting to speed up the improvement process.

The Solution

Capgemini Consulting recommended an Accelerated Solutions Environment (ASE) event. ASE sessions are designed to fuse group creativity and collaboration to unleash breakthrough solutions and action plans in days rather than months. The event was hosted in the Volvo Cars Showroom in Gothenburg and brought together a diverse group of forty key Volvo stakeholders from both business and IT. The project was co-sponsored by the CIO and the Chief Operating Officer and was held as a two-day event.

The Result

By leveraging the collective experience within Volvo Cars to approach challenges and opportunities in a focused manner, a number of concrete change activities were identified to make IT an enabler for further business improvement. Most importantly, the ASE resulted in a closer cross-functional alignment, and created a momentum and commitment to deliver on the recommendations from the ASE.
