From Banking to Consulting: Joining the Wave of Transformation in Financial Services

With a background in banking, Cedric Segercrantz now serves as a Business Analyst in Capgemini, specialising in the Financial Services sector. In his role, he acts as a bridge between business strategy and IT, analyzing potential solutions and solving problems.

Can you share a bit about your professional background before joining Capgemini?

I studied Consumer Economics at the University of Helsinki while working part-time at a Nordic banking and finance firm. After earning my Master’s, I stayed on at the bank, rotating through different departments and projects – everything from product development and process improvement to CRM and system implementation.

I started out as an associate in the stock finance team before moving into sales, where I worked with key accounts and business customers. Later, I joined the value operations team, focusing on process and product development. Just before joining Capgemini, I was in financial crime prevention, handling due diligence – again, same firm, different department. Seeing how technology and transformation were shaping financial services, I made the jump into consulting to get involved in a wider range of projects.

What inspired your career in Financial Services & IT Consulting, and why Capgemini?

Working in financial services, I saw just how fast the industry is changing with digitalization and new tech. I really enjoyed working on projects that improved processes and updated systems, and I noticed how consultants played a huge role in making those transformations happen. That’s what led me to IT consulting – it’s the perfect mix of industry knowledge, problem-solving, and project work.

Capgemini stood out because of its strong reputation in financial services and expertise in digital transformation. It felt like the right place to grow and make an impact.

What do you find most rewarding about your work?

The best part is getting to work with so many different people – both within the company and with clients. I really enjoy the collaboration and the mix of perspectives. The learning and knowledge-sharing culture at Capgemini is also a big plus. It’s great to stay in the loop on what’s happening across different sectors, pick up new ways of working, and keep up with the latest trends.

What advice would you give to someone considering a role in IT consulting for Financial Services?

Be curious and adaptable. The financial industry moves fast, so keeping up with regulations, tech trends, and market shifts is key. Strong stakeholder management skills will take you far. Also being able to work with different kinds of people, each with their own skills and ways of thinking, makes a huge difference.

AI and automation are shaking up financial services, bringing both big opportunities and tough challenges. Right now, one of the biggest shifts is the growing pressure from regulators. My role is all about helping clients navigate these changes, which means staying on top of the latest trends and constantly learning new skills to make sure I can support them effectively.
