The culture of Capgemini is very engaging and nurturing. This really helps in harnessing different skills of people and bringing them together to a common platform where we can excel.

Tell us about your role. What does a day in your life at Capgemini look like?

I have been working with Capgemini for almost two years now as a senior analyst. In the project I am on, I am working as an APL developer. Typically I am assigned daily tasks to do, which mainly are coding, data loads and solving any issues coming in that relate to our codes.

Our day starts with a standard call in which the entire team connects and our leads will discuss what activities were given to us as part of the previous day and what progress we have made on them. Then each of us will be assigned certain tasks for that particular day.

Whilst working on those tasks, if we face an issue, we debug it together as a team. The entire team connects whenever it’s required. So, that is engaging and fun and it’s a platform for learning as well.

What’s the best thing about working at Capgemini?

The best thing about working here is the culture and the people. The culture of Capgemini is very engaging and nurturing. There are people from many different backgrounds with very different experiences and the way in which people conduct themselves is something that means a lot to me. We all bring something different to the table and we are constantly learning from each other. This really helps harness the different skills people have and brings them together to a common platform where we can all excel. Every day, I look forward to learning something new, and the chance to grow personally and professionally.

What makes you proud to work at Capgemini?

The thing that makes me proud for working at Capgemini is the acceptance that each individual receives here and the positive environment that supports us to learn, grow and excel. We see the Capgemini core values in action every day.

I joined this organization straight out of college and one of the things I observed is that it’s very welcoming. For example, we have daily connects with our entire team, so even the people new to the company are given something to engage with every day and are involved in the conversation. When someone else is going through a problem and they’re trying to resolve certain issues, everyone in the team is involved in helping them out. Never once have I felt like I was just the new person and or that the work I was doing was not important.

That really made a difference and helped me feel of the Capgemini family. Everyone, including our leads and mangers are so approachable. Nobody hesitates to ask for help or advice and that’s something I didn’t expect from any organization, let alone one the size of ours. It just shows how special Capgemini is in this respect.

How are you working towards the future you want?

I see Capgemini as an enabler that gives us a platform to pursue our goals and provides the right support and constructive criticism to help us achieve them.

We have a lot of learning platforms within the organization. Recently, we’ve been hearing about data science, machine learning, cloud computing and more. It’s free for us to enroll and get certified, but what I really appreciate is the breadth of choice we are given on where and how we can upskill ourselves. On the NEXT learning platform, I’ve recently started learning Azure-related services. I have no background on Azure, so I started with the basic course and I’m really enjoying it.

It’s not just formal learning that’s helping me though, it’s my manager and the way Capgemini actively helps you develop. After my first year, my manager told me that he wanted me to work on something a little more complex. It was a big challenge, but I did it well and I got to learn a lot in the process. If I hadn’t been given that opportunity and supported through it, I wouldn’t have gained such useful knowledge for the future.

What advice would you give to someone joining Capgemini?

My advice to people joining Capgemini would be to form bonds, get along with the team members, and work in a collaborative manner. Do not fear to voice your opinions or concerns, as the leadership at Capgemini is very receptive to new ideas.

How do you think Capgemini’s support has been since the pandemic began?

At the height of the pandemic in India, I got diagnosed with Covid and then my parents did too. I communicated this to my manager and the way that he approached the situation meant so much.

He immediately asked me how I was doing and how my family was. My colleagues supported me so much in terms of workload, because I had to take a leave for a couple of days to recover. Not once did I feel like I was being pressured into not taking time off or like I was letting people down. I was given enough time to recover and even the most senior people called up to check, ‘Is your family okay?’. There is so much support that has come from everyone at my company in these past few months and it makes a big difference.
