Every day at Capgemini is a new day. Each day is different – either a project event, or a major issue to be discussed, a customer meeting, and many such situations. However, each day presents an opportunity to learn and blend further into the Capgemini culture and values. No matter what I am doing, I am portraying an image of Capgemini and I look for every opportunity to enhance that image, which automatically results in my personal growth and development.
- What do you love about your job?
The flexibility to “do what you like” rather than “like what you do.” I have played different roles during my long tenure at Capgemini and every time the company has only encouraged me in my endeavour to try something new. In my current role, I deal with the most important customers of our region. I love the interactions with different people. The joy of hearing a “well done” from a customer is unparalleled.
- How does Capgemini empower you to master your skills?
In my long tenure at Capgemini, I have handled various roles. Skills have been picked up on the job and with focused learning initiatives. Most importantly, the trust demonstrated by the organization has enabled me to discover hidden skills. My experience of working at Capgemini has been one in which the fear of failure is taken away, thus empowering me to learn and practice new skills fearlessly.
- How does Capgemini help support your sense of purpose in your career?
I have been able to set clear objectives for each of my roles and the right level of involvement (without interference) from my leadership team. This has helped define a purpose for each action leading towards those objectives. The internal communication in Capgemini is quite effective and helps align with the company objectives. And what better purpose is there than to strive to achieve company objectives?
- How does Capgemini give you the autonomy to make decisions?
In my current role, the accounts that I manage constitute a large part of the unit’s budget. I have complete authority to decide on all matters concerning these accounts. The reporting process is strong enough to align various stakeholders who contribute with valuable comments that enable better decision-making. I have full clarity on the different functions of the organization, who should be approached for respective policies, and this helps me make my own decisions in complete alignment with the organizational policies.
- What do you love about the way of working at Capgemini?
The ability to walk up to your team/leaders and speak your mind. “I want to do something more exciting” is an accepted statement in Capgemini and is looked upon positively rather than negatively as it is at many other organizations. We do live up to our tag line of “People matter – results count” and use motivation rather than fear to drive performance/excellence.
- How does this all combine for you to have passion for what you do?
Capgemini has given me the opportunity to work with large teams and large customers. Challenging situations are a given when we work with customers – however, the security of having a great organization with you allows you to convert every threat into an opportunity. The passion comes from the challenge of extracting that one satisfied smile from the customer!
- What was the most memorable moment in your Capgemini journey?
There are many that it is hard to pick – but the two standouts from recent times are:
- The successful completion of one of the largest FP engagements of Capgemini at Singapore Power in March 2018
- Attending the EM-L3 course and passing the exam to progress to the next stages of getting my certification. Considering that I have consciously made a return to active Engagement Management after playing service line leadership roles for many years, this is a very significant achievement.
