Capgemini awarded with a climate leadership award for superior climate change performance by CDP

01 Dec 2014

Paris, 1 December 2014 – Capgemini, one of the world’s foremost providers of consulting, technology and outsourcing services, today announced it has achieved a position on the The A List: The CDP Climate Performance Leadership Index for its leading approach towards climate change mitigation. In doing so, Capgemini becomes one of just ten French companies on the list. Capgemini has been identified as a leader by CDP (formerly Carbon Disclosure Project) for its significant contribution in driving environmental sustainability and climate change initiatives at a corporate level.

The A List was created at the request of 767 investors who represent more than a third of the world’s invested capital. Climate change information provided by nearly 2,000 listed companies was independently assessed against CDP’s widely-respected scoring methodology and ranked accordingly.  Capgemini was one of 187 companies recognized with an A grade and a position on the index.

CDP performance scores provide a tool for institutional investors and stakeholders to evaluate and track corporate efforts to mitigate climate change.  Scores are communicated to investors and other decision makers through various channels, including Bloomberg terminals, to help them assess corporate preparedness for changing market demands and emissions regulation.

Paul Simpson, chief executive officer of CDP, comments: “Global greenhouse gas emissions continue to rise and we face steep financial risk if we do not mitigate them. The business case for action to mitigate climate change has never been stronger or more urgent. For this reason we congratulate those businesses that have achieved a position on The A List: The CDP Climate Performance Leadership Index.  These companies are responding to market demand for environmental accountability and at the same time are making progress towards the realization of sustainable economies.”

James Robey, VP, Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability, Global, at Capgemini said “We are delighted to achieve a position on the CDP Climate Performance Leadership Index in recognition of our commitment towards being a world leader in environmental sustainability and resource management. Environmental sustainability is at the heart of Capgemini’s business model not just because it is the responsible thing to do but because it also creates value for our employees and stakeholders and, importantly, for our customers too.”

Capgemini is dedicated to combating the adverse impact of climate change through efficient energy use, business travel and waste management.

CDP is an international, not-for-profit organization providing the only global system for companies and cities to measure, disclose, manage and share vital environmental information. CDP works with market forces including investors representing more than a third of the world’s invested capital to motivate companies to disclose their impacts on the environment and natural resources and take action to reduce them. CDP now holds the largest collection globally of primary climate change, water and forest risk commodities information and puts these insights at the heart of strategic business, investment and policy decisions.
