There’s no doubt about it: Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a disruptor and game changer. As the fastest-growing enterprise technology company ever, it is revolutionizing the IT services industry and is now a $7Bn born in the cloud company, just 9 years after they started. And this growth looks set to continue as more and more organizations migrate their application workloads to the AWS Cloud as the mainstay of their corporate IT platforms. But do not make the mistake of seeing AWS as only a compute and storage company as they offer Technical & Business support, an AWS Marketplace, Management Tools, Platform Services, Enterprise Apps, Hybrid Cloud Management and Security Tools, next to the Infrastructure Services. They have evolved their technology stack and their own developed relational database engine Aurora, is their fastest growing product ever, beating EC2 and S3.
The growth of AWS is also fueled by the company’s extraordinary rate of innovation, with something in the region of two new features and/or services released a day, based on the feedback they receive from their customers. This is great news for the end user, but presents the CIO and other IT leaders with somewhat of a challenge. How do they keep up with the rapid pace of innovation? How do they ensure the different components of their AWS Cloud solution reflect the true needs of the business?
The simple answer is that with the AWS continuing to innovate at pace, CIOs are increasingly looking for support with their cloud choices. And that’s why I’m excited about Capgemini’s recently announced expanded cloud services collaboration with AWS, Capgemini Cloud Choice with Amazon Web Services. It ideally positions us to help our clients make the right choices. We’ve invested in a migration factory dedicated to AWS Cloud that will support the migration of enterprise applications to the AWS Cloud. And whether we’re advising on strategy to strengthen performance with AWS Cloud, or migrating clients to managed services, our migration factory leverages all the AWS’ tools and capabilities. This includes the AWS Cloud Adoption Framework, which is such an important asset in ensuring fast and efficient workload migrations to AWS Cloud.
We’re also investing in our people. How? We’re expanding our AWS Cloud resources with ongoing training that will see up to 1,000 professionals being trained in AWS Cloud, including 400 specialists in our migration factory. This upskilling of our people is taking place in different regions around the world, enabling us to support workload migrations and provide consultative advice precisely where it’s needed. The expertise of our migration specialists goes beyond purely workload migration to embrace re-platforming, remediating and re-writing of applications as well.
Our investment is evident in other areas too. We’ve launched a number of specialized IP sector-specific solutions on the AWS Cloud as managed business services: Insurance Connect; Digital Industrial Asset Lifecycle Management (DiALM) for asset intensive industries; and SAP OnePath pre-configured to different industries. As we create new offerings, we will continue to invest in our migration factory to ensure our clients have the best practice support they need to achieve their cloud transformation goals.
