What drives me to work:

Many different things:

My desire to help our clients to digitally-enable their businesses, providing innovation guidance, solving complex business and architectural issues, leading and being part of a team that applies its outstanding talent, and learning from all of my interactions during the day – this makes every day a little adventure for me and every little bit worthwhile.

My usual work day:

• As an Enterprise Architect, I work with Chief Architects and CxOs of our clients and design strategies, technology and innovations that will address their challenges across all aspects of their business – for some, I am more of a trusted advisor and mentor driving their digital agenda than an Enterprise Architect

• As the Head of the Enterprise Architects team in Germany I manage a team of almost 50 up-and-coming EAs, their careers and learning journeys, look after them on projects, and manage and develop architectural content and topics for various audiences

• As a Level 3 certified architect, I am actively involved in the design of the global architecture training programs, the international architecture certification boards and enabling the exchange of ideas and networking across our business units by shaping the architecture content.

Combining the different aspects of the roles is a challenge at times, but it makes for an interesting day – that’s for sure.

Skills to be an Architect:

There are lots of different skills that you have to have to be an architect at Capgemini, but let me just mention two or three that are essential:

A background to understand how to apply technology to solve business problems, creativity to challenge the status-quo and enable innovation, and communication skills to convince that your solution is the right one. There are plenty more, but those skills are fundamental. And obviously, experience can make things easier.

My Aim:

For our clients, I aim to design and deliver outstanding digital projects that will support their strategies and achieve their goals. For our architects, my ambition is to provide an environment in which they can learn and grow, work on interesting assignments and develop their full architecture potential.

Overcoming Challenges at work:

There is so much going on around the world and with our clients – the pace appears to be ever increasing. Keeping up with the technological developments and innovations is not easy.

However, we have a great network of experienced architects and leaders in place who share their knowledge and experiences, be it in formal training sessions or while learning on the job. I can also always approach one of my mentors or another architect to get their input or guidance – our collaborative style is part of our DNA.

We also use a variety of tools such as databases, repositories and apps to communicate and share knowledge and insights. On top, once a year we have a global architecture event going on for a week, the CWIN (Capgemini week of Innovation Networks), where we get together with clients, partners and Capgemini architects locally to talk “architecture” and share innovations, best practices and experiences across all five continents. It is pretty amazing to be able to be part of such a global event with thousands of architects sharing their ideas and stories.

There are lots and lots of things that I could mention here, these are just a few ways Capgemini helps me stay top of the game with my knowledge and skills.

What motivates me?:

The projects are a key motivator for me – being able to grow professionally and personally with super-interesting assignments. The success, the learnings and experience are incredible and, of course, the people I work with every day are extraordinary.

How Capgemini empowers me?:

The opportunities to work on the most complex business and technology issues in a local or international setting are amazing. The trust I receive from the clients and teams to architect the right solution with the right level of innovation and change certainly makes me feel privileged. Also if I come up against an issue where I need assistance, I can always get help from my colleagues and fellow architects. A great environment to work in.

What makes me Proud?:

I have seen many different projects, different approaches and challenges that we have mastered, which makes me very proud:

Recently, I changed an all-encompassing old-style delivery model into a fit-for-purpose modern cloud delivery approach improving the delivery cycles, customer interaction and experience while increasing the technology maturity of the client – a great project and a great long-lasting success.

Also, over the past years we have been part of a number of very successful, large, international transformation programs across various industries. The challenges in each program were always unique and so were the solutions and approaches that were required. The bigger the challenges, the more proud the team made me by achieving the results we set out to accomplish.

Why Capgemini? :

We have a fantastic team of highly experienced architects and colleagues locally and internationally with great projects where young and experienced professionals can apply their knowledge and skills. Our clients and colleagues value the way we work and deliver projects while keeping our qualifications and training up. If you want to join a great team, develop, grow and be successful as an architect while making a real difference, then Capgemini is the right company.
