Katherine Battle-Schulz

VP, Head of Customer Engagement and Consumer Products and Retail Sector lead - Capgemini Invent, Melbourne, Australia

I believe we create magical solutions for our clients when we bring together diverse skill sets, expertise, and collaborate together on solutions. I'm passionate about fostering and building that collaboration and continually growing and challenging our teams.

What drew you to a career at Capgemini originally and how has the company changed since?

I started at Capgemini in September 2018, since that time we’ve launched Capgemini Invent which is a fantastic opportunity for us in the Australian market. Capgemini has a unique combination of strategy and technology required by our clients to enable them to succeed in the future. This is really compelling combined with the clear articulation of a vision for growth, an appetite to do things differently and an introduction to fantastic people. I was so impressed with the people I met, the openness, the desire to grow and succeed and the willingness to adopt new thinking to achieve this.

What does a typical day look like for you and what are you currently working on?

Am not sure there is a typical day at the moment! My days are spent in a combination of:

Team meetings: As the Lead for Customer Engagement and the CPRD sector within Capgemini Invent, I am passionate about fostering our team to do their very best work. I truly believe we do this with collaboration so I am working with team members across Invent and the Group more broadly to help facilitate this.

Clients: We’re working on some really exciting projects with our clients, architecting the future experiences that will drive growth for their brands.

New clients: We have some really exciting opportunities with potential clients – watch this space!

Tell us about your work life harmony at Capgemini?

I have a 7 month old son, so I try and create a work/life mix that works for both. There are always compromises, but I think it’s important for people to do what’s right for them in achieving their work commitments and having personal satisfaction. We’re very fortunate in our ability to create our own flexible arrangements. For me, I try and have breakfast and dinner with my son and do slightly reduced office time – it makes for more calls, early starts and late nights as I fit work around these times – but it works for me.

Describe your current role at Capgemini

I have just taken on a new role in Capgemini Invent as Head of Customer Engagement and Consumer Product and Retail Sector Lead. I’m really excited about the launch of Invent in Australia and the opportunity to be part of this team. My role will focus on customer-led business transformation and bringing to life what’s next for our clients in the retail sector specifically.

How would you describe the culture at Capgemini?

Open, inviting, friendly, ambitious, pragmatic.

What has been the most empowering moment in your Capgemini career journey?

The launch of Capgemini Invent and my role in this new team.

What are you passionate about in your role?

I believe we create magical solutions for our clients when we bring together diverse skill sets, expertise, and collaborate together on solutions. I’m passionate about fostering and building that collaboration and continually growing and challenging our teams.

How does Capgemini help support your sense of purpose in your career?

Capgemini’s Global connection really helps to ensure I am connected to all team members globally enabling greater collaboration.

What have you gained from working at Capgemini from a career perspective?

I have a new understanding of large scale technology implementations and how this enables end to end business solutions. As a practitioner, focused on the customer, I don’t often get exposed to corporate systems so it’s been a whole new world and when we connect the enablement systems to the future experience of customers and employees, there’s something magical that drives impact.

What are 3 words you’d use to describe Capgemini as an employer?

Ambitious, friendly, pragmatic.

How has Capgemini’s global approach to diversity helped you in your career so far?

I have the most amazingly diverse team – their perspectives, passion, and backgrounds are phenomenally diverse and interesting and this combination inspires magical thinking. For me personally, Capgemini’s Maternity leave Policy and approach to returning to work really helped me. I came back to work after 8 weeks and I was still breastfeeding – everyone was incredibly understanding and respectful of the time and facilities I needed – made it super easy for me to step back into my role effortlessly as a working mother!
