In alignment with Capgemini’s celebration of women’s leadership during the month of March, several Capgemini employees attended the 12th Annual Women in Leadership Symposium (WILS) hosted by the Texas Diversity Council, which is a member of the National Diversity Council (NDC).
The theme for this year’s event was “Secure Your Seat At The Table.” This topic was timely for Capgemini attendees from the Houston office, as we recently launched a Lean In Circle for the office. Many of the takeaways related to this topic are similar to concepts that we are discussing in our Lean In Circle.
All Capgemini attendees at this event (either members of Women LEAD, the Houston Lean In Circle and/or other Employee Resource Groups) were eager to gain knowledge from this conference in furtherance of their career development. This event afforded us the opportunity to network with executives, directors, diversity officers, managers, and human resources professionals from various companies and organizations.
The panelists generously shared their insights and experiences on a myriad of topics which included:
- Developing Political Savvy: Hard Work and Talent Are Not Enough;
- The Courage To Lead: Inner Dimensions of Leadership;
- Branding: Becoming Visible and the Importance of Self;
- Becoming a Person of Influence;
- Finding and Owning Your Voice; and
- Developing your Leadership Potential: Knowing What, When and How.
The topic that I found most enlightening was related to personal branding. More specifically, suggestions made by the panelists to determine the current state of your personal brand, and how to evolve and shape your brand, along with your career progression. What a great topic for an upcoming Women LEAD or Lean In Circle meeting!
Capgemini colleagues will be invited to attend other WILS events taking place later this year in the US and Canada. Each WILS event yields great advice and lessons, all different from those shared at the last event.
The vision of the National Women in Leadership Symposium is to develop a network of nationwide annual events and to be the premier resource for women to be able to network, mentor and participate in professional development programs geared toward helping them rise in their careersTheir mission is to bring together a diverse mix of successful women leaders who, through the discussion of topics relevant to today’s issues, educate, inspire and encourage women to reflect on their own goals and status as they strive to move higher in their organizations.
Capgemini values our continued partnership with the NDC. The NDC is the first non-profit organization to bring together the private, public and non-profit sectors to discuss the many dimensions and benefits of a multicultural environment. The NDC is a forerunner of community-based, national organizations that champion diversity and inclusion across the country. Their vision is to cultivate a nationwide network of affiliated councils to advance diversity and inclusion by transforming our work places and communities into inclusive environments where individuals are valued for their talents and empowered to reach their fullest potential. Their mission is to be both a resource and an advocate for the value of diversity and inclusion. The NDC serves as the umbrella organization to support our statewide and regional affiliates, which foster an understanding of diversity and inclusion as a dynamic strategy for business success and community well-being through various initiatives.
