One of Oracle’s latest new cloud products is Process Cloud Service (PCS). It allows you to automate and manage business processes in an easy way. PCS originates from the on-premises Oracle BPM 12c and can be used to automate and monitor processes.  One of the key features of PCS is also that it allows you to easily create processes and forms. This increased simplicity will allow business people to create the screens and processes they want without specific technical knowledge. This drastically increases the ability to adapt to changes in the organization or in the market. PCS also allows business users to change business rules to for example decrease the workload on a certain department or to comply with new regulations.

When looking at the practical application of PCS you can divide it into 4 major areas which will be discussed in the next paragraphs

·         On-top-of ERP

·         Extend SaaS

·         Automate form driven Processes

·         Mobile enablement

On-top-of ERP

When looking at the current state of ERP solutions at customers we often see that a lot of customizations to the plain vanilla ERP solution have been made in order to support the business processes. These customizations often lead to higher upgrade costs and slow release cycles. When looking at the current technology innovations, like the cloud, we see that shorter release cycles are required to keep up with or stay ahead of the competition. In order to be able to get these faster release cycles you need to be able to become more agile. This simply means you need to be able to change directions quickly and reach goals faster. Here is where PCS can help you. PCS allows you to create small extensions on-top-of your current ERP application to do the things that are unique for your business. You can also check if it is possible to rebuild your current ERP customizations in PCS. This makes your ERP system less heavy and more plain-vanilla, which will result in lower upgrade costs and your organization to become more agile.

Extend SaaS

More and more businesses are moving into the cloud by using SaaS applications like Salesforce, Workday and Oracle Sales Cloud. These SaaS applications provide your organization with easy accessible standard online environments to work in. These environments often give you 90% of the functionality you really want and lots of functionality you will never use. In order to close the 10% gap from the SaaS application to the IT support you really want you can use PCS. PCS allows you to extend your SaaS application by connecting with it and extending it with automatic or manual processes. It allows your organization to be unique and really identifies your organization when comparing it to the competition. So in short: you do the business everybody does in SaaS and make the difference with PCS.

Automate form driven processes

In many organizations tools like Access and Excel are used the daily work of many people. In some cases this is just the easiest solution, but in many cases it increases complexity and decreases productivity.
A few open doors about things an Excel file won’t do for you:

·         Communicate with other systems

·         One version of the truth

·         Show progress in a dashboard

·         Show you who edited what

·         Tell you when a deadline is closing in

I think everybody can agree with the above disadvantages, but still when you switch from Excel to PCS?
From previous experiences I can tell: people are really attached to their Excel sheets. But after moving to an automated version of the Excel sheet they never want to go back to their Excel sheet. After moving to tools like PCS end-users can really focus on the numbers instead of on managing the process. It also allows managers to have an overview of the process and to focus on improving that process. In this way it empowers end-users and process managers to focus on the right things.

Mobile enablement

Many organizations have customer-facing people like technicians, sales people or health care workers. Enabling these people with mobile devices so they have the information they need at the moment they need it can have a real big impact on your business. It allows them directly to help clients better which creates happier clients. They can also provide the business with more up to date information so they know the progress made, materials used and outcome of the client visit. This information can be used to provide the customer with better information, react faster to delays and to reschedule on the go. What impact this mobile enablement has on your business can really differ based on the market you are in, but it certainly will provide you with a lot of new options. PCS has this enablement out of the box. Whenever you create a form it is automatically optimized for web and app usage. As show in the below image you can browse and execute your tasks. When you don’t have internet connection at the client location the app can also be used in an off-line mode. The edited information will then be stored and when you have internet connection again it will be send.

When more complex functionality is required on the mobile, for instance combining information from different systems, PCS can also be extended with Mobile Application Framework (MAF) in combination with Mobile Cloud Services (MCS).

Oracle Process Cloud Service (PCS) can enable your business to become more agile and automated. It can extend your SaaS or ERP applications with processes that are unique to your organization. It also allows you to automate processes so they become manageable and ready for improvement. Finally it can enable your client facing workers with a mobile application that allows them to help clients better because they are provided with the right information at the right time.
