The study showed that location-based services, applications that utilize a mobile phone or device’s location data to enable value-added services, ranked high on consumer lists of mobile needs for the purposes of safety, security, and conducting business. The report also identified several factors challenging operators interested in expanding their LBS offerings including segmentation in the LBS value chain, capital intensive vendor offerings, and limited service and system support, and suggests operators be diligent in aligning their business needs with the support capabilities of the available vendors.
