When selecting third-party logistics (3PL) providers, this year’s survey respondents, as in past years, continue to rate the price of 3PL services as a key criteria, closely followed by the “quality of tactical operational logistics services.” The next several selection criteria regard the strategic, versus tactical, offerings from 3PL providers. In fact, as 3PL providers and users improve the quality of their business relationships, both parties should think of 3PL providers in three related contexts: as a key resource directly to 3PL user organizations, as a key link between supply chain organizations, and as a key to supply chain integration.
From 1996 to present, this study has helped to identify and track key trends and views of the 3PL industry from the customers who use 3PL services. New in this year’s study is a special focus on the use of 3PLs in emerging markets, particularly China.
