Cap Gemini Ernst & Young powers enterprise e-business with new range of Windows 2000 solutions

Windows 2000 provides enterprise-wide flexibility to speed delivery of low-risk e-business services and solutions

4 July 2000

Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, one of the world’s largest management and IT consulting firms, has introduced its next generation of e-business enterprise solutions and services. Based on the Microsoft Windows 2000 platform, the new global portfolio has been developed to help customers realise their e-business potential by rapid mobilisation of the latest technologies in the extended enterprise.

Cap Gemini Ernst & Young aims to combine its market-leading consulting and delivery expertise with the flexibility of the Windows 2000 platform to accelerate the delivery of complex systems while offering customers the peace of mind of a low-risk solution from a proven supplier.

With most enterprise organisations now dependent on a flexible, three-tier IT architecture – including databases, servers, desktops and mobile devices – Jim Procter, Alliance Relationship Manager at Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, believes Windows 2000 provides the best-fit platform. “Thanks to its applicability across a three-tier architecture, Windows 2000 offers the business about 90 per cent of its IT requirement. You can then take components based on the COM standard and configure these to complete the picture. This allows businesses to get their online strategy up and running quickly with a focused service.

“Windows 2000 is also cost-effective because it reduces risk. To move fast, you need to have complete trust in your core technology. With Microsoft you are working with a proven vendor who offers a scalable, flexible architecture and lower total cost of ownership.

“We believe Windows 2000 will open up new market opportunities and create exciting new areas of business. In response to growing demand, we are committing our expertise and substantial resources to help customers migrate to this new technology.”

The new Windows 2000-based services and solutions portfolio will initially focus on two other specific areas:

A range of knowledge management solutions will focus on the design, development and implementation of enterprise-wide knowledge sharing within heterogeneous information environments.

While ‘Infomediary-in-a-Box’ will utilise Windows 2000 as the basis for the development and implementation of business-to-consumer e-commerce systems – providing customers with online product comparison and information and guidance towards a best-fit solution.

Bertrand La Belle, global account manager for Microsoft, commented: “This new range of solutions will make it easier for enterprise businesses to stay ahead in an increasingly complex electronic economy. Our work with Cap Gemini Ernst & Young demonstrates both companies’ commitment to offering superior e-business solutions on the Windows 2000 platform.”

In implementing the Windows 2000 infrastructure for new and existing customers, Cap Gemini Ernst & Young will harness its expertise in infrastructure migration planning, architecture and upgrading together with application assessment, migration and consultancy. In addition, the company will fund extensive investment in training and will showcase its service and solution offerings in eight worldwide demonstration centres.
