Cap Gemini Ernst & Young Joins Elemica to Build Global Chemical E-marketplace

6 November 2000

Elemica, a neutral online e-marketplace for the global chemical industry, announced today the signing of an agreement with Cap Gemini Ernst & Young to be the company’s technology management and consulting partner. The agreement aligns the Elemica solution, designed by 22 of the chemical industry’s leading players, with a leader in worldwide business process and connectivity consulting.

“The collective expertise and global reach of our partners will enable Elemica to create and maximize supply chain efficiencies that powerfully impact bottom-line cost savings for all companies that decide to utilize Elemica’s functionalities and service offerings,” said Dennis Campbell, chief operating officer, Elemica. “With the best-of-breed approach we have taken to couple the support of our premier group of international chemical industry investors and our technology experts, we are on target to execute an aggressive roll-out plan to bring the transactional site on line by year-end.”

Elemica is on an aggressive timeline for full functionality. Today’s agreement with Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, one of the largest management and IT consulting firms in the world, marks a significant step toward the launch of Elemica’s transactional site.

“With this powerhouse of investors, technology and integrator partners behind it, Elemica is well positioned as the leading neutral e-marketplace in the chemical industry,” Campbell said.

Elemica will function as the hub for the chemical industry, serving both the buyer and seller sides of the business. As such, it will be critical to have deep technology resources to address the volume of transactional data and ensure information security.

“Our expertise in providing clients with pragmatic, functionally rich e-marketplace solutions has enabled us to identify and propose processes for Elemica’s complex supply-chain needs within an aggressive timeline,” said Katherine Karolick, vice president of Supply Networks for Cap Gemini Ernst & Young’s Chemicals Global Sector. “Elemica is breaking new ground, and we are excited to provide the industry specific, technical know-how needed for a successful, multi-phased site implementation.”

By tapping into the technology resources of its “best-of-breed” technology and integrator partners, Elemica is poised to be a catalyst for capturing value through enhanced chemical supply chain efficiencies.

Once operational, the site is scheduled to roll out its full functionality in the first half of 2001.
