Vattenfall to Supply Nuclear Fuel More Efficiently

Energy giant Vattenfall has chosen a solution from SAP to optimise the supply of nuclear fuel to three of Sweden's nuclear power plants. The system has been installed by Cap Gemini Ernst & Young.

Stockholm, Sweden - December 19, 2002 -- Vattenfall Bränsle AB, a company within the Vattenfall Group, is responsible for the supply of fuel to three of Sweden's nuclear power plants: Barsebäck, Ringhals and Forsmark. The comprehensive planning to supply the nuclear power plants with fuel has now been simplified and optimised with the help of a solution from SAP called APO (Advanced Planner and Optimizer).

"By choosing the SAP solution, we have made both fuel supply and our processes more efficient. We also see how other energy companies can benefit from the advantages that this solution brings, especially on the U.S. market. We have therefore chosen to collaborate with Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, which is an excellent partner for spreading the solution globally," said Ali Etemad, Vice President at Vattenfall Bränsle.

By complementing Vattenfall's existing SAP system with the APO solution, Vattenfall Bränsle will be able to plan and simulate the flow of future logistics and delivery scenarios more efficiently. What previously took up to two weeks to perform can now be carried out in a couple of hours. Since the simulation is faster, Vattenfall Bränsle can produce several alternative scenarios in a shorter time, thereby increasing their ability to adapt to a variety of possible changes in the market.

The new fuel-supply solution has just been put into operation. Cap Gemini Ernst & Young Sverige AB has been responsible for the implementation of the APO solution from SAP, which is one of several solutions within the scope of SAP's Supply Chain Management offering.
