HOCHTIEF Sells IT Service Activities to Cap
Gemini Ernst & Young and Signs Outsourcing Agreement
July 20, 2001 - HOCHTIEF has sold its subsidiary HOCHTIEF
Software GmbH, Essen, to Cap Gemini Ernst & Young Deutschland
GmbH. The current employees, about 250 in number, will be
taken over by the new owner. The sale has not yet been approved
by the Federal Cartel Office.
In addition, a ten-year service agreement under which Cap
Gemini Ernst & Young will provide HOCHTIEF with IT services
has also been signed. Cap Gemini Ernst & Young will assume
responsibility for existing contracts with clients of HOCHTIEF
Software. The focus of the outsourcing agreement is not on
cutting costs, but on the efficient implementation of innovative
IT concepts based on the high-end service and quality standards
of Cap Gemini Ernst & Young.
In the past months, HOCHTIEF had evaluated various strategic
options for its IT division. These ranged from expanding activities
within the HOCHTIEF Group to entering a strategic partnership
with an IT services firm or selling off HOCHTIEF Software
to a larger company whose core business is in the IT sector.
"In Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, we have found a strong,
globally renowned partner for our subsidiary, who will implement
our IT strategy on a global scale", emphasizes Hans-Wolfgang
Koch, HOCHTIEF Executive Board member. " HOCHTIEF Software
will be able to make use of its core competencies in this
cooperative effort. Not only our employees will benefit from
this new partnership, but also our clients."
"The infrastructures and skills we have acquired from HOCHTIEF
constitute an important base to provide more operate services
to Cap Gemini Ernst & Young's customers in Germany and
more broadly in Central Europe", says Antonio Schnieder, CEO
Central Europe of Cap Gemini Ernst & Young.
"HOCHTIEF Software is an important building block for further
expanding our market position and market shares in Germany
and Central Europe. Furthermore we will offer HOCHTIEF Software
IT employees attractive career opportunities under the roof
of a global IT full service provider", states Raimund Hoermann,
Chief Operating Officer and manager in charge of the outsourcing
business of Cap Gemini Ernst & Young Central Europe.
