Capgemini and TruePosition Study Confirms Demand for Enhanced Location Services and Identifies Factors to Drive Rapid LBS Adoption
Capgemini U.S. LLC and TruePosition, a leading provider of wireless location products and services, have published the findings of a research effort designed to identify key factors required to facilitate the rapid adoption of next generation location based services (LBS).

The research confirms subscriber demand for higher value location offerings and the need for improved quality of service levels. The study also revealed the reasons behind slow adoption of location, and suggests that more rapid LBS growth can be facilitated with location technologies and solutions that are more flexible and adaptable, require minimal capital outlay, and are presented in offerings that minimize risk and maximise revenue potential.
The study showed that location-based services, applications that utilize a mobile phone or device’s location data to enable value-added services, ranked high on consumer lists of mobile needs for the purposes of safety, security, and conducting business. The report also identified several factors challenging operators interested in expanding their LBS offerings including segmentation in the LBS value chain, capital intensive vendor offerings, and limited service and system support, and suggests operators be diligent in aligning their business needs with the support capabilities of the available vendors.
As LBS are poised to penetrate the mass market, Capgemini and TruePosition believe there is great promise for mobile operators to capture many LBS-related benefits, especially in the areas of data adoption, product differentiation, and new revenue streams.
