Aspire: A Look at How HM Revenue & Customs and Capgemini Work Together

The work of the UK’s tax authority, HM Revenue & Customs, is essential to the economy and the provision of public services, and the scale of HMRC’s responsibilities requires IT which is as large and complex as many of today’s global companies with worldwide operations. HMRC’s IT services are provided by Aspire, an innovative transformation contract that is now a role model for transformational outsourcing. Capgemini is the prime contractor, leading one of the world’s biggest outsourcing arrangements.

As prime contractor for Aspire, Capgemini manages key partners Fujitsu, Accenture and BT as well as HMRC’s Ecosystem of preferred suppliers. With this in place our priority has been to deliver efficient, robust and secure IT infrastructure and services and by working together, our expertise drives efficiency and improves business performance.

Beginning with a carefully planned six-month transition, business-critical IT and staff were moved from the former supplier to Aspire. Following the smooth transition, we now deliver IT services and successfully manage a wide consortium of major providers.

Capgemini has shown that we understand the challenges that HMRC faces. Growing together with HMRC to help cut costs, increase efficiency and improve the customer experience, Aspire’s IT modernisation programme is now improving customer service and productivity in ways that were simply not possible before and our implementation of new systems and services is contributing significantly to efficiencies in productivity and cost effectiveness. Through this continual commitment to improvement we have demonstrated our ability to implement change successfully, working in partnership with HMRC we look forward to further innovation and change, bringing new ideas to the agency from our knowledge of the wider market, to help support their vision to further close the tax gap, ensuring money is available for public services and families in need of financial support.
