5 Minute Friday

I would like to offer a suggestion, which is to spend 5 minutes of your Friday watching this short film.

While described as a film about what ‘Web 2.0’ is all about, it’s actually a film about how IT really works today.

If you’ve ever wondered why people are starting to talk about ‘people-centric IT’ in the same breath as ‘enterprise solutions’, this explains it.

It’s quite a famous clip by Michael Wesch, Assistant Professor of Cultural Anthropology at Kansas State University , and you may well have seen it already, but even so I think it’s so good it’s worth a second look.

While watching it, you might like to hold front of mind some questions around what this means for your next business transformation endeavour, as well as what it means for how your business uses IT.

Here it is - hope you enjoy!

This is truly one of the most interesting on the web, I already watched a few months ago, however I watched it again since it is still an interesting video.

Another interesting video is this one from Nokia (although commercial, its message is interesting): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5V-2qQS3NY0

From the description I am assuming this is "The Machine is Us/ing Us" video and if it is, then its probably the most thought provoking and high impact video I have ever come across. Infact there are few other videos, the same team has come up with on on similar themes and they all are very well made, communicating a REAL message.

In fact, we the KM Team at Capgemini India, use this video in our Induction program for the new joinees into Capgemini. We show them the video to help them understand what Web2.0 is and how the web has evolved from the early days. We also show them the other video called Information R/evolution taking them more closer to the concept of Information Mgmt. and Knowledge Management, its relevancy to each of us and its importance in the organization perspective.

I think both these videos have a Important Message and really makes one THINK on the responsibility we as the end-user of Internet have, more than anything else.

P.S.: I said I am assuming you are talking about this video is because I cannot access YouTube from office and there was no name mentioned in your entry.

@Rick - Would love to have a look at the nokia commercial, but only after I get back home!

Thanks,
Nikhil

Hi Nikhil - sorry, that was an omission on my part - you're right it is of course the Machine is Us/ing Us video. And yes, it truly is thought provoking, isn't it?
