Regional mass retailer creates plan to execute new brand
The Business Issue
After three years of a cost cutting business transformation, a leading mass retailer developed a new brand strategy to drive profitable growth. The business needed to share it with top leadership, develop a strategy for communicating it internally and externally, and identify initiatives to execute it.
Approach
A diverse group of 72 executives came together for a three day ASE DesignSession.
Results
The participants, in those three days, created an execution strategy for the new brand. After they identified 59 initiatives, with a focus on achieving solid results within 30-90 days and gained a collective understanding of the new brand and what it meant for the company the participants developed a communication strategy to convey the brand to both customers and employees.
“Only one of our previous ASE sessions has paralleled the importance of the work we are here to do. That was critical for us to stay in business and find a new future, now we have to figure out what that future is.”

- Refined the North American Operations functional structure
- Created an implementation plan for 22 newly drafted initiatives to build the new structure, including a communication plan and alignment program management approach

Leading biotech reviews SAP supply chain design
Business Issue
Rapid growth had strained their manufacturing processes and their current operations could not scale to meet forecasted demand. This biotech company wanted to build upon their initial SAP implementation to enable transformation of core supply chain and manufacturing capabilities.
Approach
Over 70 leaders representing manufacturing sites, Finance, and Quality met for a three day ASE to review the functional requirements specifications for the Blueprint Phase. The Design Review focused on track-specific items, cross-functional integration, and issue resolution.
Results
This event empowered 25 Business Process Owners to take ownership of the future state design. During the ASE the Business Process Owners signed off on 34 deliverables and resolved ten key integration issues. The group also assessed impact the implementation would have for each process area and defined “big hit” organizational impacts that would effect multiple stakeholders.
“A tremendous success for the project. Every time we do this type of event (this is our second), we have had our expectations exceeded.”

Pharmaceutical Company spins off business division
Business Issue
A large pharmaceutical company was in the process of spinning off one of its business divisions. The “New Company” was to go live soon and needed to readjust to a more entrepreneurial, customer-focused and financially leaner model.
Approach
The ASE was used for executive alignment and direction setting for the top 60 executives. They needed to own the new vision and be able to articulate it. They also needed to prioritize around R&D, Supply Chain, Growth, and Customer Focus.
Results
Together, these executives created transformational roadmaps and detailed timelines for operational efforts, developed plans for group communication and documented all their decisions.
“I think we’ve taken a whole lot of very complex issues and we’ve gone a long way toward making them into a simpler program. It looked intimidating going in. It looks challenging, but manageable coming out.”
