I've just finished off a new paper on MDM "Mastering the Information Ocean" which talks about the different business areas for MDM
- Customer Centric
- Enterprise Centric
- Supply Centric
And how the different elements such as data classifications and the holy trinity of entities can really drive a much simpler approach to MDM which delivers the business value in a more concentrated and effective manner.
The metaphor I'm using is about how to stop companies "
Drowning in Data" by using MDM to create the clear navigation points for both analytical and operational systems.
MDM needs to stop being a technical solution to a data warehousing problem and start becoming a business solution to the information problem.
